He eventually reached the conclusion that Math and Physics are more than just prerequisites for most STEM careers, they are also fundamental tools for modelling intellectual discipline and logic. Mike’s philosophy in education is that, for students to flourish academically, a boot camp determination is necessary but not sufficient; one needs grace as well. Mike envisions Grace STEM Camp to become a place in which hard work and grace blend seamlessly, where the instructor will join the students as they contend with various questions in Math and Physics.

Russ is a Georgia native, born in Atlanta. He graduated North Clayton H.S. in 1974, joined the U.S. Army in 1975 and served on active duty for 5 1/2 years. He served in the Georgia Army National Guard Band for three years, and the Georgia Air National Guard Band for ten years, playing piano and percussion and retiring in 1996. Russ is a retired registered nurse who taught Cardiac Health to patients at Piedmont Hospital for 17 years. Russ' primary teacher was Ted Howe, former Berklee College of Music faculty and nationally known Jazz arranger and pianist. Russ is a Jazz, Pop, Country and RnB pianist. The method Russ teaches, is for people who already have a degree of piano experience. Russ' teaching is based upon the students musical goal, and is individualized for each student. Classes consist of teaching tools that take a melody line and extemporaneously create an orchestration or arrangement built around the melody. This approach requires the student to learn the harmony and construction of Jazz chord voicings. It is best but not necessary for students to have the ability to “play by ear”. Players will learn rootless chord voicings for the left hand to accompany the right hand as it plays melodic improvisations. Russ uses the Hanon exercise series to promote technical facility. He makes his classes fun, and demonstrates skills that help the student learn and understand.
Peggy Thomas fell in love with quilting as an art form years ago and dabbled with a few quilts. While married with two young children, one on the autism spectrum, she had little time for quilting, then even less time when she owned a tutoring agency for 12 years! When she was introduced to The 70273 Project it was love at first sight, because of the combination of art, storytelling, and advocating for those among us who have differing abilities. The 70273 Project is an international community of volunteers who are telling the story of the 70,273 disabled people murdered by the Nazis before WWII. Peggy says "We will commemorate these souls, and raise awareness until communities welcome disabled people and plan for their success. Our current work involves cataloging and completing the existing quilts and collecting the others that are continuing to come in from around the world. We are always looking for volunteers to help stitch labels onto the finished quilts". (Ask me how you can become a stakeholder!)
